When a laptop boots up and there is nothing on the screen there are a number of reasons for this. Step 1. First is a memory problem. Check that the memory is seated properly. Switch the memory with a new module that you know is working. If this does not work try step 2. Second remove the hard drive and press F2 as soon as the laptop boots. This should take you to the bios. If this does not work proceed to step 3. Third open the laptop and check the motherboard. Remove the battery. Plug in the mains and check that the power is reacing the fuse. If this is all well proceed to step 4. Fourth
Remove the motherboard check the connection between the screen and the mainboard. Also look for any burnt integrated circuit chips on the board and replace any that are burnt out. Then proceed to step 5. Fifth Check the inverter inside the screen sometimes the image is soo dark you cannot see the image on the screen. Our advice is Just replace the screen with any old screen just to see if it lights up. The best advice is If your laptop still does not boot up then call a reputable laptop repair company like Laptop Repair uk Ltd.

To start with I personally use windows xp. That does not mean it is better. I have used both operating systems and at first windows vista is a bit hard to get used to. Especially if your looking for something like msconf.exe . One thing to remember though is if you go to search > then type in msconfig in windows vista it will find msconfig. Now you can edit the start up menu programs. When you are so used to an operating system its always abit intrepid to move to a new operating system. Microsoft havent always got things right.
Take windows millenium, this was the worst operating system i have ever seen. it did not last long with windows xp brought out quickly. Windows 98 se was soo good that many engineers did not want to make the change over. Now we have xp its a bit daunting to move to windows vista. Windows Vista is a very good operating system with many improvements over xp. It looks better and if you have 4 gigs of ram vista will use all of it. I personally run xp with 4 gigs of ram on my laptop and it runs like a dream.
I know one day i will have to move to vista so i am getting used to it on my wifes new sony vaio laptop. If you have to choose which one bear in mind that everyone one day will be using vista. For me I will use xp until I really have to change over. One word of warning ! Do not install vista on a laptop that is not vista ready. This will cause major problems. I have seen this many times.
A bit of advice. One of my engineers installed vista on a dell 9400 it crashed the machine with a blue screen then messed up the graphics card and we had to perform a hardware repair ont he graphics card. The operating system controls the bios and controls things like fan speed and so on. If the operating system doesnt control the fans properley overheating can occur.

A few years ago. Sony vaio laptops where vivisting workshops all over the country because of a memory slot problem on thier motherboards. Sony have long fixed this problem so if you think you will have this problem with an new laptop chances are high that you wont. If your laptop does not boot do not open the memory slots and try to push the memory hard into the board or this will break the pins. If your laptop does not boot up this is a safety mechanism in sony laptops in order for the protection of the motherboard. Take the laptop to a Qualified Engineer. For the most part though you will not find this in most modern sony laptops. They cleared this problem up a long time ago. The only way you will get this problem now is if you press on the contacts on the memory slot too hard.
If this has not put you off and you still want to buy a sony laptop then Amazon is doing some very good deals this winter.

Fujitsu siemens. Good laptops. A note of caution. If you are thinking of purchasing a fujitsu siemens laptop in my view the less you pay the more problems you will have. I have seen many sub £300.00 fujitsu siemens laptops come into our workshop. The chipset dies and because you cannot remove this chip from the main board, there is a no repair. That said i would highly recommend buying a fujitsu siemens for around £700.00. As an engineer I saw very few of these machines at our workshop last year. So in essence never buy a sub £300.00 laptop in any make as you will get what you pay for.

There has been a number of issues with the IBM t43 laptop where nothting is shown on the screen. As you may have guessed from reading other posts, this is often down to the graphics card . Usually the ATI 128 graphics bga chipset on the motherboard. This laptop in its day was the best laptop arpound for strengh and durability. This problem must not be confused with the tube inside the screen. When a tube dies the screen will often go pink. Replacing the screen will fix the problem. The laptops from ibm like the t60 are very strong laptops. They will last you many years becuase of there durability. They are not the best looking laptops but will last longer than a thin laptop anyday.

At this time there is a very big problem with hp dv model laptops. Laptop repair companies are being inundated with hp laptops where all the blue lights come on but the hp laptop does not boot up or you get nothing on the screen. The cause of this problem is down to the graphics card. Never ever use this laptop on the bed where a blanket can block the fans that cool the processor and the graphics card. The laptop is not broken it just needs a simple repair. Just take the laptop to a company like Laptop Repair Uk Ltd. They can repair this for you often while you wait. HP laptop not booting is almost always a graphics card problem and therefore causes the screen to be black with no image on the screen.

So what is the best laptop to buy?
Dell laptops have very few problems. They are generally a good investment. A few years ago the 5150 and 5160 models had a tendency to overheat but dell has addressed these issues and now the only problems they have when it comes to repairs is because of broken power connectors. Dell do not sell in the shops so if you want to buy one you would need to phone them or buy one on the internet. The part where you plug your adapter into the back of the laptop can get worn out hence the board will need to be taken out and a new pin fitted to the motherboard. Generally speaking Dell is a good laptop to buy.
Sony Vaio laptops must be the best looking laptops of all. If you want to have the best looking laptop on the block then here is the king. However some Sony laptops suffer from boot up problems. Sometimes they will just fail to boot up. One day they work fine the next they just wont boot at all. This is for safety reasons. Sony Vaio laptops need to be serviced once a year. Some of them are thin and if picked up with one hand they may develop bad contact on the motherboard.
Ibm is now known as Lenovo. Ibm laptops are not very nice looking laptops but are very strong workhorses. If you want a laptop to last you many years then IBM is a safe bet. They rarely suffer from problems. However on the t41 models some of them suffer from bad contact on the motherboard usually where the graphics chipset is located. There website is difficult to navigate when looking for drivers. In general IBM is a good laptop to buy.
Toshiba make decent laptops. You may be surprised to know that in a lot of the other laptops in this list have lot of their parts are made by Toshiba. The Quasmio range has been a nightmare for Toshiba. Many of them suffer from onboard graphics card problems. There other ranges of laptops are good sturdy notebooks with their latest models having few problems at all the satellite range is a safe bet to buy.
Surprisingly Acer are pretty good laptops. There small 13.3 laptops have few problems at all. The main problems with Acer laptops are broken power pins. If you pull on your power cable which connects to your laptop you will probably break the little pin on the motherboard. Acer should sort this problem out as it has been like this for a couple of years now. An Acer laptop is a cheap and cheerful laptop that usually wont let you down.
Hp Compaq laptops are usually good laptops to buy. Over the years they have suffered from inverter backlight problems and power pin connector problems. Their latest laptops are getting better. They are quite robust and are better for mobile use than many other makes of laptop so if you are going to carry it around it is strong like an IBM. Again be careful with the power connector on the back of the laptop.
Panasonic Simply put this by far the best laptop to buy. Panasonic laptops are very very strong . They are used by the military and for obvious reasons. If you have plenty of cash then this is the laptop to buy. One small point to remember is that on a lot of Panasonic laptop the processor is soldered to the motherboard so upgrading it would be out of the options. However most customers don’t even think about upgrading their processors at all so this should not be an issue.
Samsung Good strong laptop have very few repair issues. Although Samsung sell few laptops they are a very good laptop to buy. This is a very powerful company who has just won the contract to build the Burj Dubai (The worlds largest skyscraper) A good laptop that has very few problems.
There are many many makes of laptop on the market today. Have you heard of mesh or benq? There are around 50 makes of laptop on the mass market at the moment but the best laptops must be laptops that are strong powerful and have things like blu ray disc Bluetooth

Does your sony laptop not boot up ? Sony laptops are usually good laptops. However One day they are working great , the next they just fail to boot up. Usually just a simple repair is needed. Caution has to be taken as to where you take your laptop. The number of computer repair shops claiming to repair laptops has risen greatly. The best thing to do is take it to a laptop repair company.
Just type laptop repairs in google and use one of the NATURAL listings, this should help you not to get stung.
The reason They dont boot.
Sony vaio laptops should be serviced. They need the fans cleaned out and hard disk checked to see the maion disk is not full also the battery has to be checked. If the main battery is old and does not hold a charge this can affect the smaller on board battery and this could mess with the bios ( basic input output system) causing it to fail boot up. The fan can get blocked overheat and the laptop will shut off to protect itself from damage. This often happens when the laptop is used on a bed. The blankets block the fan and cause it to overheat. The laptop should then be taken to a good service centre like www.SonyLaptopRepairs.co.uk The laptop will then be serviced and will work perfectly afterwards. This is usually an easy repair not needing any major work to be carried out on the motherboard. Sony vaio laptops may not boot up becuase of condensation. Condensation ?. Yes condensation is the cooling of vapour to a point where liquid begins to appear. For example imagine its a cold february evening and you use your laptop near a window, you can see the liquid condensation forming drips on the inside of the window. You cannot see any vapour or condensation on your laptop but laptop engineers have seen this liquid damage internally on laptop motherboards. When the customer was questioned the real truth became clear. Laptops being used in bathrooms on window sills can often cause this crazy problem. If this occurs the laptop will either short out or just fail to boot.
There are a number of reasons they fail to boot up but none of them very serious, If your laptop fails to boot, take it to a sony vaio repair specialist.
